Quick mental tools for staying centered
H . A . L . T
Never get too… Check what you're feeling right now:
You're Hungry
- Eat something right now — even something small
- Low blood sugar makes cravings worse
- Keep snacks available; hunger is a trigger
- Ask yourself: am I actually hungry, or craving?
You're Angry
- Pause before reacting — count to 10
- Call your sponsor or a trusted friend
- Write it out: what am I really angry about?
- "Resentment is the number one offender" (Big Book p.64)
- Ask: is this worth my sobriety?
You're Lonely
- Go to a meeting — even an online one, right now
- Call someone from the fellowship
- Text your sponsor: "Feeling lonely today"
- Isolation is the enemy of recovery
- Service work connects you to others
You're Tired
- Rest. Seriously. Give yourself permission.
- Exhaustion weakens your defenses
- Early recovery takes enormous energy
- Say "no" to something today — protect your energy
- Sleep is not laziness; it's self-care
